Us and Them - Parshas Vayeishev

The Gemara (Sotah 10b) describes the noble acts that Tamar did in this weeks parsha in order that she not embarrass her father-in-law, Yehuda, in public.

אמר רבי יוחנן משום ר' שמעון בן יוחי נוח לו לאדם שיפיל עצמו לתוך כבשן האש ואל ילבין פני חבירו ברבים מנלן מתמר (בראשית לח) הכר נא

In the merit of her righteous act she was zocheh that Mashiach should come from her.

It seems, however, that the nations of the world have different values...

On a separate note we need a final counting for Stollel. Please comment if you can come to either week. We have to make sure we have at least a minyan for Shacharis and Mincha. We already have about 7 full day commitments.

  1. the only problem with your "nations of the world" comment is that that the shooter is part of our nation (his name is Amir!)...

  2. Suomyona, 1. Amir is not the one doing the embarassing. 2. Amir is not a strictly Jewish name.

  9. The Heilege Reb Rafael (the great Light of our people) has paskened (chok vi'al yaavor) that the stollel must learn meseches middos to continue with our tamid/kodshim/beis hamikdash limmud from last year - it is small enough to finish with Hashem's help. I hope all are agreeable to this psak...if not take it up with Raf but i wouldnt mess...

  12. Moon is in whenever; unless there are really extenuating circumstances I dont see how anyone can pass on the stollel

  13. if you are in israel why would you want to spend your time being part of this? Any levels that we can reach outside of israel cannot reach the levels that you can in israel.
