Step 1 of my medical day has been completed. There was a heavy Stollel representation this morning in the Morg Lounge, some there for Garritanya's free bagels and others to give blood to be genetically tested by NYU.
I returned to the Morg Lounge at around 1:15 and noted:
"It's a good thing they are not genetically testing for lap-tops."
(I awarded myself "Joke-of-the-day" for that one)
Step 2 of my medical day consists of a trip to the office of the Ba'al HaFrollel

where he will with the help of heaven remove two of my thirty two wisest teeth. I have been asking rebbeim and friends as to what is the proper religious approach to having wisdom teeth removed. Please comment below if you have an idea and I will hopefully check the blog to see what the Stollelnicks think before heading over to the procedure.
Essentially this is what we have come up with so far: The reason two teeth need to be removed today is really because of one tooth. HaRav Friedman will be set to remove tooth #1 (א) and tooth #32 (לב) but the root of the problem is really the #32. It has been growing in sideways-ish and is now touching his neighbor #31.
Thus, it seems that the root of this problem is a crooked לב.
As the Stollel is a collective body, with your permission, I hope to represent us today as we remove all sense of excessive self importance, the אנכיות, and crookedness from our hearts, our לב. May it be His will that the doctor is successful in accomplishing this mission.

By the way - I realize we never posted anything about Stollel 5770 and so because of the Dr. Frollel connection this will be a good opportunity to give a little something. The picture he is holding was (most of) the Stollel Team 5770).
And here are the President's closing words from Stollel 5770, filmed live from the Friedmans Toy closet.

ReplyDeleteRefuah Sheleimah!
(interesting- did you get to the Gemara in Kiddushin where it mentions one of the Tannaim/Amoraim always carried around the tooth of his son? I'm just saying...)
Please, please, please record the yiddish vort from our president.....
ReplyDeletej-wein, whats pshat in ppl like yours truly who do not have wisdom teeth b'chlal? do i lack a leiv? is that why i enjoy being litvish? this could be the beginning of a tremendous discovery.....
as i often like to point out, perhaps the funniest part of the team stollel photo is adam freidman (middle-ish left-ish), who for some reason is under the impression we just won the championship
ReplyDeletewell obviously he saw the hockey stick in the top right and got confused
ReplyDeletetop left....unless you mean from the perspective of standing in the picture, in which case i take it back....
ReplyDeleteshiaz i'll give it to you. verry funny.
ReplyDelete@zlou I think he meant from the perspective of the camera
ReplyDeletehaha i actually meant top left but saw the picture a few hours before posting it so i forgot. but sruli(i) thanks for giving me the benefit of the doubt
ReplyDeleteThe president's (my yiddisher chaver) yiddish d'var torah was mammash gevaldik!!
ReplyDeleteHow come Sruli is sporting a white skullcap in both Stollel videos as opposed to his regular, classic green one? Is this perhaps a special Stollel beanie? Was this video taken on Motzei Shabbos and this is a special Shabbos beanie? The Sruli Fan Club eagerly anticipates an answer.
ReplyDeleteWhat are the chances that sruli fan is a g-rl?
ReplyDeleteI'd give it a 50/50 chance.

ReplyDeleteFor j-wein: and eitzah for all Jews with teeth and especially future DDS's: "k'shat atzmecha v'achar kach, k'shat acheirim" -- Sanhedrin 18a
ReplyDeleteJust a possible thought about "knocking out one's teeth"... In the Haggada, the response to the Rasha is to knock out his teeth. What might this mean? I forgot who said this (but check out Rav Rosner's Haggada Shiur circa 2006 pt.1) but the word Rasha is "Reish, Shin, Ayin" in other words, "Ra" with a "Shin" inside of it. The Rasha is Ra on the surface but what does he have deep down? A Shin, three legs, Kineged the Three Avot. The Rasha might look like he's bad externally but deep down he's a Yid too! (see Likutei Moharan Torah 282) We need to bring out that Shin in him, knock out from inside to the surface! Joshy, you too get the chance to bring out your Shin, your Yiddishkeit, in this endeavor. Chas V'Shalom to compare you to the Rasha though! I'd believe that as quickly as I believe you have a crooked Leiv! In any event, Hatzlacha in you recovery!
ReplyDelete@ben oded do u have a particular diyuk in the post that led you to that possibility?
ReplyDeleteit was מוצאי שבת
ReplyDeleteI got it! I got it! Motzei Shabbos! I knew I was the ultimate Sruli Fan. I can't wait to tell all my fellow Sruli Fan Club members that I won the contest! Thanks Stollel Chevra, you guys are the best.
